John Galliano Spring Ready-To-Wear 2010

John Galliano is perhaps the hardest working man in fashion. I can't imagine how he manages to accomplish everything he does, time and time again. Every season he makes at least four distinct collections -- and they're not rip-offs of each other -- they can all stand on their own.

His show at Paris Fashion Week was very well received by critics and fashionistas. As you can see in the video above, Galliano juxtaposed a truly modern runway (laser-lit with magical floating bubbles) with his vintage-Hollywood-inspired collection.

"I went around the old houses of Hollywood and imagined how stars like Tallulah Bankhead, Lillian Gish, and Mary Pickford lived," he told Style. By all accounts it was a successful venture.

I can't wrap up this post without mentioning his fabulous footwork. I've always been a fan of his shoes and these are no exception.

Christian Dior Spring Couture 2009 Collection

After a very successful 2008 season with the house of Dior, I pondered if John Galliano can top that.Dior's spring couture collection last year had a sixties vibe. Models wore lamp-shade and saucer hats, towering up-dos and eyelashes for miles. This year's collection still has Galliano's excess and it's all about tight waists and full-skirts with beauty taking in a more classic tone. The collection is quite romantic, I say. Silhouettes are chic and feminine. And I just can't get enough of the gowns with tons of lace and chiffon embroidery.

Shame on me to even doubt Galliano for a second. It doesn't matter whom he is going against with. He will come out with something more fabulous and fiercer, even if that person is himself!

Headdress' New Frontier?

Spring 2009 Ready To Wear Collections
have been parading the runways of Paris and London for a couple of weeks now. Judging by Style.com's extensive coverage, there were a few designers that showed better collections from previous seasons. And of course, there are the seasonal fashion criminals and offenders. It's ironic how runway shows, which are supposed to be a showcase of chic, trendy and innovative fashion; the worst are also expected to be ever present. Personally, I like that. Giving collections season after season entertainment value. I said that not undermining and disrespecting the hard work and creative talents of fashion designers.

When browsing the collections for RTW Spring 2009 , I noticed that headdresses are getting taller, bigger and interesting. Feathers, one foot tall bowler hats, tulle origami, cornucopia of flowers and shrubberies graced the catwalks adding more pizzazz to the garments. I contemplated on charging criminal fashion negligence the designers responsible for the over the top head gears but decided not to. As a matter of fact, I enjoyed seeing their artistic expression. Besides there were worst fashion road kill that flanked the runways. So, is bigger and over the top designs are headdress' new frontier? I guess we just have to see.

Splurge of the Week: Christian Dior Beaded Bubble Dress

John Galliano showed his range in creativity and imagination designing for Christian Dior this year. Christian Dior's couture collection was one of the best and most talked about in the fashion world. And John Galliano fabulously executed another flawless show for Christian Dior's Fall Ready to Wear 2008. The hair, make-up and the fashion came together that night.

Of course, such perfection comes with a price tag. Like this beaded bubble dress from Christian Dior Fall RTW 2008 collection priced at almost $10,000.00! Is it worth it? Well, I'm on the fence with that. But this dress sure look hot! An absolute splurge.

Christian Dior Couture Collection Fall 2008

John Galliano called it 'fresh couture -- refreshed and refined'. I have to disagree, Dior Fall '08 Couture Collection is fresh couture -- glamourous perfection. The collection speaks beyond the realms of fashion that can be appreciated by anyone. Fifties inspired designs paraded the runway done in decadent see through gowns, tulle dresses, hourglass silhouettes, flawless hair and make up and fabulous shoes. Christian Dior delivered a collection above and beyond my expectations. Usually, I expect extravagant fantasy collections that are more for show than wearability but Dior just showed me what Haute Couture is and how it should be. Photo credits: Style.com
