With a couple of Crimes of Fashion, Valentino hasn't faired well here on TheSmartStylist.com. And just for the record, I'm not singling him out. I have the outmost respect for his creativity and consider him as one of fashion's most important and most influential person. As for the fashion offenders that I deliver into justice week after week, they can be a criminal this week and a hero the next. Besides life is to short to hold a grudge on something that's ugly.

The upcoming Presidential Election will be forever engraved in U.S. history books as a milestone in some many ways. Personally, it is a momentous event in my life because I will be voting for the first time in my life! I was to young to vote when I left the Philippines and became an American citizen three years ago. So, I decided to celebrate this special day by donning election fashion. Not necessarily wearing stars and stripes (I did that for Fourth of July) or anything that bears the candidate I'm voting for; but if asked I'll be more than happy to say who it is.

Vanguard designs, chic and fierce are the words that come to mind when I hear Alejandro Ingelmo. Instantly I was a fan when I came across one of his fabulous shoes, 'Thriller 2' (shown below: $1059.00 Zappos). I also love the fact that Alejandro Ingelmo has both a men's and women's collection, equally edgy and fashion-forward.

It's undeniable that puffer coats are the keeping us warm for those cold fall and winter nights. But sacrificing style over comfort shouldn't be an excuse to look like a walking marshmallow or a shapeless lumpy blob. There are puffers that are stylish and functional at the same time. Here some points to consider when you're shopping for a puffer coat.

I first came across Factory Green a few months back and was very impressed by the commitment and determination to help save the environment. The Green Movement is spearheaded by Jack Short and Daniel Lyons. 

One word came to mind when I saw this pair of 80%20 'Dani' Hidden Wedge Boot, 'canckles'! 80%20 is obviously milking the hidden wedge boot design which is predominant in their fall collection. The calf-high hidden wedge boot are ok but nothing to go gaga over. 80%20 enough with the hidden wedge design, start producing some real shoes, OK? My verdict this is 80% ugly, 20% not so much.

Internationally renowned womenswear brand Esprit is having a grate online sale. Cardigans, sweaters, coats and jackets mostly priced under $100.00!

That was the nursery rhyme I always recited when the first raindrop falls, hoping that playtime outside won't be cut short and be bored inside. Aside from playtime being interrupted, I also didn't like getting my shoes wet and socks wet! Just feels uncomfortable and the thought of wet socks gives me the shivers.

It's been close to three years since I moved to California from Michigan. And the cold season here feels like summer compared to the Great Lakes' bitter-cold winters. Women's Ready-to-Wear Spring 2009 Collections definitely had fabulous designs and a few interesting ones. And now that all the runway shows are wrapped up, it's time to roll out The Smart Stylist's top 3 worst collections for Spring 2009. And hoping these designers will show better and wearable fashions in the upcoming seasons.

First on my list is designer duo, Victor & Rolf. When I saw Victor & Rolf's Fall 2008 collection, I thought they were just going through a fashion rebellion phase and they will be back to their usual fabulousness come spring. Well, I spoke to soon. Fabulous supermodel Shalom Harlow was the muse for their Spring 2009 collection. Shalom was a pinata, a parasol and whole lot of ridiculous wearing Victor & Rolf's Spring 2009 collection.

Next on the list is Armand Basi One. The MC Hammer inspired parachute pants and revealing sheer tops are tasteless and tacky. This collection was like a time machine bringing me back to the early nineties when such look was the rage.

Completing my worst collection for Spring 2009 is Francesco Scognamiglio. Why the exposed breasts? And the huge ruffle on the skirt resembling a flower strategically placed on the model's privates? All I can say is there are other ways to be provocative that doesn't require exposing model's body parts. It' unfortunate the creativity and hard labor becomes unimportant and seem non-existent when replace with unnecessary vulgarity.

I have to admit the only plaid clothing you can find in my closet are pajamas. Nothing against plaid, it's just not a preference of mine. The resemblance to table cloth or gift wrapping paper, the Brawny guy or perhaps being in Catholic school from preschool to college are few of the reasons why plaid is M.I.A. in my closet. Being an equal opportunity fashionista, I'm open to trying on plaid apparel.

Jessica Simpson shoes have been pretty consistent and in fact I consider myself a fan of the pop singer turned shoe designer. Until this 'Lopez' boot came along. There is just to much going on with this boot. The buckle strap could've been omitted and what's up with the nutmeg grater heel? Simply put, this boot was over-designed. 

Target Go International adds footwear designer Sigerson Morrison to the list of designers like Botkier, Isaac Mizrahi and Rogan Gregory offering affordable apparel and accessories to everyone. Some might call these designers as 'sell outs'. In my opinion, it's a smart move because they are able to make an impression to a demographic of consumers that are not familiar with such brands or designer. And hopefully consumers will shop for their new-found favorite designer beyond the four walls of a Target store.

Attendees of the Maison Martin Margiela Spring 2009 RTW in Paris were tricked (or treated?) to a collection of Halloween Couture instead. Call it 'artistic expression' or what have you, there is a time and place for that. And I feel that this wasn't the right setting.  

It may seem that I've totally forgotten about men's trends for fall since I've been focusing on the ladies quite a bit. As a gentleman, I abide by the 'ladies first' principle. Well, that and the fact that men really don't have as long of a list of must-haves this season as the women.

When asked why I moved from Michigan to Los Angeles, I say; the weather. Growing up in the Philippines, where the climate average in the low to mid 70s all-year round and snow is something we only see on t.v. But I have to admit, snow does make the holidays feel extra special.

Fall in southern California can feel like spring or even summer at times. So, when it comes to cold weather fashion we have to shop with having that in mind. Here are some ways to look chic and fabulous with the fall trends for L.A. fashionistas. Fall days can feel like spring time out here in L.A. A simple dress worn with a chic cardigan, turtle necks or cashmere sweaters can be sufficient to stay warm for work or school. Singer turned glamourous fashion designer Gwen Stefani is spreading more of Harajuku Loving! Harajuku Lovers has five new fragrances, each having it's own distinct smell. Bottled in cute and sassy girls named 'G', 'Baby', 'Lil' Angel', 'Music' and 'Love'. I saw these adorable 'girls' while shopping at Nordstrom this past weekend and you know I had to test and see which Harajuku Lover best fit my personality! 'Lil' Angel' was best match for me, sweet fruity floral scents.

Spring 2009 Ready To Wear Collections have been parading the runways of Paris and London for a couple of weeks now. Judging by Style.com's extensive coverage, there were a few designers that showed better collections from previous seasons. And of course, there are the seasonal fashion criminals and offenders. It's ironic how runway shows, which are supposed to be a showcase of chic, trendy and innovative fashion; the worst are also expected to be ever present. Personally, I like that. Giving collections season after season entertainment value. I said that not undermining and disrespecting the hard work and creative talents of fashion designers.

It's no surprise that boots are the footwear of choice for fall and winter season. Ankle boots, booties, knee high boots, heeled boots and whatever style boots under the sun, they are here until spring. But that doesn't necessarily mean that all will be chic and trendy for the season.

Everybody is affected in one way or another by the current economy -- and I could spend all day talking about the deflating specifics and chat you up about the worst of it all -- but, no... CNN's got it covered, anyway!. So, let's instead talk about something FABULOUS!

Betsey Johnson's whimsical yet chic and trendy designs will always be part of the fashion world. And I just can't imagine not seeing Betsey's polka dot skirts, ruffled gowns, vibrant dresses and her trademark cartwheels on the runway after every fashion show. The fashion world will be a little gloomy. I also like the fact that her apparel, shoes and accessories have always been priced reasonably and affordable. Considering she is one of fashion's best and could easily have luxury prices on her pieces.

So, when there's a sale on Betsey Johnson pieces better get them while you can! Don't wait for the next markdown because you'll be left with slim pickings. Here are a few of these great and fabulous steals priced under $150.00!

Gareth Pugh Zip Front Sweater Dress $855.00 Browns Fashion

'Take me to your leader!" That's what this sweater dress is screaming. With all due respect, but oh my stars! I know that Gareth Pugh is famous for over the top and sometimes obscure fashion but this is borderline crazy. And as an avid lover of fashion and admirer of the talents and creativity of designers, I see this as a mockery and a joke. I understand Gareth Pugh's self-expression through fashion, but does he ever think about how the public will respond to this sweater dress if worn by someone? And I know that his designs are not for everyone and recieved accolades for his work, but everyone knows ugly when they see one.

John Galliano showed his range in creativity and imagination designing for Christian Dior this year. Christian Dior's couture collection was one of the best and most talked about in the fashion world. And John Galliano fabulously executed another flawless show for Christian Dior's Fall Ready to Wear 2008. The hair, make-up and the fashion came together that night.

Of course, such perfection comes with a price tag. Like this beaded bubble dress from Christian Dior Fall RTW 2008 collection priced at almost $10,000.00! Is it worth it? Well, I'm on the fence with that. But this dress sure look hot! An absolute splurge.
