This week's smart shopping feature is women's shoes under $100. It wasn't easy to pick my top three from a very long list. I did have some points to consider while I was shopping. Price, quality and style. 

First on my list, Jessica Simpson Neona D' Orsay Pump. I like the simple classic style of this shoe and the delicate design. Subtly sexy. Honestly, Jessica Simpson's shoes are starting to grow on me, I think it's the unpretentious shoe designs. They are what they are.

Next is Carlos by Carlos Santana 'Believe 2' Mary Jane Pump. This pump are stylish and hot! Not to mention, eco-friendly with the faux patent material used. So, if your looking for a pair of seasonal shoes this are the ones. I love the rich red color and the open toe adds an extra vavavoom!

And last on my list is Nine West 'Jostle' Ankle Strap Pump. The color block and classic looks, you just can't go wrong with that. They have a 'Chanel' feel to them. This pumps are more on the preppy look. Perfect if you're in the market for work shoes. And the price is fabulous!

Armani Exchange's youthful, trendy and stylish design put's them on my list of shopping destinations to get the best bang for your buck. This summer their line is full of dip dyed colors, fun shapes and exotic looks. Definitely highly recommended by The Smart Stylist!

This year the house of Dior didn't fail to amaze me with the innovative fashion forward collections they delivered. And it seems like next year's collection they will do the same. Cruise 2009 is full of colors, patterns, ruffles, sexy silhouettes and fun attitude. Fabulous job, I say.

I have the outmost respect to Japanese designers. Their creative and imaginative designs are works of art to some and to others just not their cup of tea. Dai Furjiwara, on his third season for Issey Miyake, captured the essence of Issey Miyake in this collection and fused his keen eye for color. Overall, the collection is spectacular. Innovative shapes, fabrics, cuts and colors blended perfectly. Except for a few pieces that I personally didn't care for. Besides there are has so many chic pieces that a couple of 'disastrous' ones will not overshadow and take away from the collection.

It's obvious the last set of photos, are the pieces ike from the collection. The white colored one is quite revealing to. The black dress, would be my pick if I have top chose from the three.

Old Navy definitely has change for the better through the years. And I love them for that. Before, when I hear Old Navy, performance fleece comes to mind. Nowadays, it's hip and fun fashions with insanely great price! So, when the going get stuff in your wallet. Go shopping at Old Navy. Sneakers have been around since the late 1800's and since then shoe companies have updated and experimented on styles and materials. They are the perfect compliment for a casual, preppy or even trendy looks. But some men would rather wear athletic shoes. And I just don't get that. This week's fashion criminal is a designer considered as one of the pillars of women's fashion and created an empire with his ingenuity, creativity, well the superlatives are endless. His no other than Valentino. When I saw these bags, I had mixed emotions. I actually thought to myself, is the economy so bad even ugly got expensive!

This bag is a collector's item to begin with. Then the black, spray paint looking detail was added. Valentino might as well finished applying the spray paint. Maybe he ran out of it, because he inhaled it all while designing this bag. Hence, the disaster?

I'm on the fence on this next bag. I can just see Carrie Bradshaw strolling down Central Park with this bag on hand and looking fabulous. Well, that's Ms. Sex in the City, she ( and Patricia Field) can make a garbage bag look trendy. So, this bag is a no for me. I like the unique shape but I just can't get over the big rosette detail,  just to much and the price??? I rest my case.

Ever had an S.O.D.? That stands for shopping overdose. With all this sales happening and only having a few days to get these fabulous deals, I had an S.O.D. The smart shopaholic that I am just can't handle it! I was rejoicing at first. Getting emails and mailers with extra percent off here, extra dollar off there. But when the abundance of deals and sales started to compete inside my head, that was it! And to make matter's worst, after a couple of days shopping for the best deals out there. My shopping bag is still empty not even a pair of socks or lip balm! Oh well, C'est la vie. So my friends, let me help you narrow your shopping options. As I have intimated on a couple of postings about smart shopping this summer and treat yourself this fall. May I suggest this trendy and edgy sandal from Dior Fall 2008 Collection.  Tagged 'Extreme', personally it's the other way around. This sandal is versatile and wearable from skinny jeans to a silk pencil cut shirt. Available in silver or black. I love the silver and the studs are a great detail. This shoe just screams fierce!

Most of you ladies probably bought that sexy but tasteful ( I hope) swimsuit for summer. And for those who are still shopping or haven't started yet, here are some 'Smart Styles' you can refer to.

• First, decide on the swimwear. One piece, bikini, tankini or a two piece suit.  Pick the one you're comfortable wearing and compliments your body type.
• Next, style, color and functionality. There's a fine line between looking sexy and tacky or trampy. Avoid swimwear that make you look like your competing in a beauty pagaent. I.e. pleats, chiffon,  and to much embellishments. 
• If your planning on just lounging and bathing under the sun,  get a suit that is meant for lounging. And same goes if your planning on getting in the water, pick a suit that looks great when wet and avoid swimwear that just have to much going on. If budget permits, buy both.
• Invest on a tunic or cover-up. An alternative for that beach towel. Trendy and less bulky to.
• Lastly, the most important element to feel and look fabulous in a swimsuit this summer is, You! Don't forget the sun block, shave or wax. Add some accessories a straw bag, hat, flip flops, etc. And have fun, work it!

A friends of mine asked me what swimwear are trendy this summer. Men are lucky to have a few options and I told him that there's  not necessarily a 'trend' this summer, just make sure that the swimwear he choose compliments his body type and stay away from speedos!! Color and prints are crucial. Here are some suggestions for you guys out there. And don't forget flip flops!

Key notes when considering handbags for summer: Try to stay away from leather during hot days, leather is a natural material and extreme heat can damage the surface. Buy bags are made with cotton or natural fibers that can be clean easily. Remember to have at least  a day bag and evening bag. Also, use your 'smarts' when it comes to the price. Like what I said on my last post about sandals, save money on your bags so you can splurge on  a Nancy Gonzales or Fendi for Fall. Have fun!

Here in Los Angeles, it surely feels like summer. And since I can't do anything about the weather, I decided to officially welcome the summer season here at TheSmartStylist.com. One thing I love about summer is wearing sandals and with that getting a pedicure. For the guys out there, pedicures are not just for the ladies. I highly recommend getting a pedicure. You might be wearing Dior or Gucci sandals but with icky toe nails, that's the first thing someone will notice when they look at your feet.

Here are some fun and colorful sandals for summer. Some points to consider when shopping for sandals, flip flops or thongs. Material: natural fibers are great or any material that would let your feet breath. Stay away from plastic or all-rubber sandals like jellies.  Have at least 2 pairs,  one day wear and evening. A third pair would be nice for trips to the beach. Colors: Have fun with it, pick colors that coordinate with your clothes. Lastly, the price, don't invest to much. Save the money and splurge on a pair for fall.

This season, watches are in my trends list. But we all know that are so many to choose from. My 'Smart Style' watch of choice didn't take long to decide. I had in mind a checklist on what I was looking for. Chic, Trendy and Priced Right.  And that choice is the 'Cup Cake' timepieces from designer Julia Cocco'. The name and the designs are fun and whimsical and for $165.00 that's not bad at all. I just ordered the white watch and can't wait to get it.

The 10th cycle winner of America's Next Top Model is.... full figured, plus size!!! It only took ten seasons to finally have a gorgeous model with real curves to emerge as America's Next Top Model. I'm very happy for Whitney, a 20 year old student from Atlantic Beach, FL. Anya, the runner up this season and a heavy favorite along side with Fatima ( Iman look-a-like ) let her nerves get the best of her. Which was evident during the final fashion show featuring designs by Donnatella Versace. My personal favorite was Claire to bad she got cut mid season. Overall, this season was fabulous and of course filled with drama, drama and more drama. And of course, Tyra's face is still everywhere, i.e. the Mona Lisa postcard. Congratulations, Whitney. You go girl!! Goodluck to all the models.

This 'Rada' sandal by Luichiny is definitely in my list of fashion disasters this summer. The foot strap makes it look like you have an injured ankle and fabric color? Come on now, it's likely that someone will have skin tone or color that's close to this brown micro-fiber material. Two word's, "Not Cute!" And the price is a bit high for this sandal.

Barneys New York announced today, that Howard Socol has resigned and will be leaving his post as chairman, CEO and president of one of the most recognized luxury department stores in the world.  With his departure, Barneys New York has yet to find to fill the position.  

In an interview with WWD Magazine, Socol said that it was his decision to leave.  Seven years, four flagship stores, fifteen co-op stores and two outlet stores. Socol said "...I felt it was time to take time to enjoy all the opportunities that life affords."

Good luck Mr. Socol and thank you for seven fabulous years!

Fashion's contributions to the environment is admirable. A number of designers started offering organic or recycled materials to their customers. But the best thing that happened is giving opportunities to companies that specializes on ecofriendly merchandise to showcase and sell their products.

It's impressive to see the accomplishments and recognition Philip Lim has achieved to date. And to do all that in a little over 4 years is phenomenal! Deserving of all the accolades and merit of course. The refinement and purity of his designs is impeccable. His designs are sought after season after season. His nomination for CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund is certainly one of many recognitions we will see throughout his career. 

The GAP with CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund created a limited 'Design Editions', a collection of theclassic white shirt featuring designs and styles from nominees. I was excited to see Philip Lim's designs! If I were you, I'll buy two of everything!

 Being a Madonna Fan, I was so excited to find out that she is touring this year. I can't wait to see the pop and style icon live in concert!

So I decided to look back on some of this years Fall Collections over breakfast. Of course, Galliano, McQueen and Gaultier, one word FIERCE! Then  comes Viktor & Rolf whom I adored through the years with their elegant evening wear. I so choked on my fruit loops. And how did I miss this? The collection is ok. Put the gothic and dark pallette  aside, the craftmanship and detailing is impeccable. But when designers use fashion as a way of relaying their personal vendetta, now that's selfish!

The words 'NO' and 'Dream On' were not even subtly fused to some of the models in response to what they ( Viktor & Rolf ) are feeling right now and that is feeling the pressure of shows after shows, precollection this and that.. Blah Blah Blah.

You know what guys take a vacation. I know it's business but you didn't sell your souls did you?

White is always a color I love to wear. The clean and relaxed look gives you a boost of confidence as well. This season there are updates on classic white button-up shirts, shorts and pants. Dyes, embroideries and prints inspired by global, ethnic and florals mirror trends in the women's collection for spring.

I know that white easily gets dirty and that's an understandable concern. One great alternative this season is blue -- easy to wear and evokes a certain sense of calm in others.

One of my personal goals in starting this blog is to provide a resource for men's fashion. Limited clothing budgets and (un)availability of the men's collection -- especially designer luxury brands -- can be frustrating and disappointing. I've been there... and sometimes it still gets to me! But honestly, I can't blame retailers for this issue.There's a simple explanation: men don't shop!

At the end of the day it's all about margins and profits calculated by strategic planning and budgeting. Women have demonstrated a significant buying power and retailers therefore invest in women's fashion and accessories more so than men's.

I know deep inside every guy secretly wants to get the latest style and fashion trends, but just dreads the ordeal of actually shopping! So I decided to help out my fellow men and do the leg work. All you have to do is browse and buy. You're done! You can thank me later (j/k)! Now with that out of the way:

This season's fashion trends for men are not nearly as diverse and multifaceted as the women's. And guys, that is not an excuse to not look stylish and feel great! Have fun with it and you might be surprised how a basic tee can look so trendy and cool by simply adding a skinny tie, belt or a hat.

Esprit is one of my favorite brands growing up back in the Philippines. I love the simple lines and the color schemes are just so relaxing and pleasing to the eyes. Unfortunately for me, their men's collection is only available at select US shops unlike in the UK almost every store offers an extensive inventory for men's and women's collection.

It's a fashion blessing the Esprit UK website has the men's collection available for purchase. Fabulous right? Well not really, the weak dollar has no match to the pound, so on top of the currency conversion the shipping charges equates to a brand new shirt. That didn't stopped me from shopping! Thank You, Clearance!
